Peter Rubenstein, a close friend for 63 years, died peacefully with his family, in his home, several weeks ago. He was dedicated to his family, friends, and his medical practice, where for more than 50 years he cared for hundreds (maybe thousands) of women and in many cases one and two subsequent generations, bringing countless babies into the world. Although long distance, we talked (and debated) for hours, almost every month; due to his encyclopedic memory, the debates were unreasonably one-sided; I rarely broke even. During our travels, he was historian, tour guide, and general know it all, because he practically did. I miss another old friend. Rainey

Peter and I both trained at LA County Medical Center and crossed paths there a number of times.  I needed his professional assistance on a number of occasions during my 30 years in LA.  He was an extraordinary professional--knowlegable and kind. I wish we had more opportunities, but he was in the Valley and I was at the Beach.  It is hard to witness the attrition of our generation.
